How We Calculate This

pH Estimation Model

This estimator uses a simplified model based on grain bill composition and water chemistry:

  • Base malt produces a mash pH around 5.7 in distilled water
  • Crystal malt lowers pH by approximately 0.004 per percentage point
  • Roasted malt lowers pH by approximately 0.01 per percentage point
  • Water alkalinity above 50 ppm CaCO3 raises pH proportionally

Always verify with an actual pH meter reading during your mash.
